Looking for F.A.T. People

I am looking for F.A.T. people. Paul, in second Timothy 2:2 told young Timothy to be on the lookout for F.A.T. people as well when he said, “and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (RSV) The F.A.T. people I am looking for may be skinny, overweight, tall, short, pretty, ugly (with a capitol U!), or regular, run of the mill people like you and me.

These people are Faithful, Available, and Teachable.

FAITHFUL-These men and women have made the decision to be “all in” when it comes to their commitment to Christ. This decision was made on their knees with an audience of One, not in the heat of the battle. They have been attacked, slandered, accused, tricked, lied to, made fun of, ridiculed, tested in every way, made to feel guilty, and reminded about their past by the evil one. And through it all-they have been faithful. Not perfect, but FAITHFUL. They have weighed the cost and the options. They have dealt with family members who didn’t understand and bosses who couldn’t believe they would give up a promising career. They have given up boyfriends or girlfriends who didn’t want to be the spouse of someone who was not in charge of their own destiny. Someone who had willfully given up that control to the One who is in total control. In that One, all faith has been given.

AVAILABLE-Available to whatever God has in store. It is no longer a matter of making a decision about how to spend time. That decision has been irreversibly made. Whatever this person can do to be more Christ like, it is going to happen. Whatever needs to be missed, it will be missed, but not missed! Because it will be replaced by time spent developing the “attitude of Christ”. Time is constantly redeemed from the world and replaced by time spent in activity that will reap eternal benefits. The desire to spend more time with the Father than with Twitter. The desire to hang with the Father rather than my Facebook friends. These investments don’t show up on time sheets seen by friends. They are kept by the greatest Friend “who laid down His own life” for the world. AVAILABLE mean engaged-engaged in exactly what Christ has for me exactly when, where, and how He wants it to happen.

TEACHABLE-the ability and desire to learn exactly what Christ has for me regardless of how contrary to conventional wisdom it may seem. The desire to learn the beatitudes, the commandments, the commissions, the challenges, the order, forgiveness, discipline, humility, and how to be a leader. The desire to know more scripture then pop songs. The overriding uncontrollable non-deniable urge to be taught by Christ more than any other desire. To be Christ-like! That is the ultimate teachable trait!

Are you F.A.T.? If so, find a teacher. Find your Paul. It may be your Pastor. Your friend. Your co-worker. This is why we established the PCC Coaching Network. These men are “Pauls”. They desire to teach men and women who are Faithful, Available, and Teachable. Men and women who have answered the call to ministry as a life calling. Check it out. Your “Paul” could be a click away!

Great word – something we all need to ask ourselves! Are we FAT?
